About old - The Arches Worcester

The Arches is a new cultural destination for the city.

Five of the beautiful Victorian railway arches have recently been be redeveloped into affordable studio and office space for local artists, creatives and performers. These arches take their place alongside a thriving community of local businesses, restaurants, and cafes creating a new destination for the local community and tourists visiting Worcester.

The five newly developed arches adjacent to the Hive have now all been leased to local creative organisations that provide space, support, services and inspiration to the local arts and creative communities.

The Project

Alongside the four tenanted arches, there is also a fifth arch, Arch 27, which has been designed as a flexible space for performances, rehearsals, pop-up galleries, events, workshops and exhibitions. Plans are also underway to create a footpath joining Worcester Foregate street, directly opposite the train station, to the path that follows the arches all the way past the university, the Hive, and down to the river. This will bring even more footfall to this growing and thriving part of town.

In January 2019 the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport awarded more than £3m from the Cultural Development Fund, which is administered by Arts Council England, towards the costs of The Arches, Worcester.
